Step One: Pick Your Base This is your liquid base, water, 100% pure fruit juice, milk (cow, nut, or plant-based) are all great options. Try to aim for about 1 cup.

Step Two: Power Up With Protein The key to keeping your smoothie filling is to add in some protein. Think Greek or nut yogurt or a protein powder to help you stay fuller longer.

Step Three: Go Green Smoothies are such an easy way to up your veggie intake with little to no taste, even the pickiest eaters won't mind. Add a handful or two of baby spinach, microgreens, or romaine lettuce (these virtually have no taste), or if you don't mind a more 'green' taste, try kale or arugula. Step Four: Feeling Fruity This is where all your yummy flavor comes from, be sure to limit your fruit portion to 1 cup, MAYBE 1.5 if you really need to up the taste. Some tasty options are: berries, bananas, mango, pineapple, pears, and oranges. Just remember some fruits have more sugar than others, so you may not need a full 1 cup serving to get all the sweetness. Quick tip, use frozen fruit for a more slushy consistency.

Step Five: Fuel Up With Fats An optional, but delicious add-in, healthy fats have the ability to make your meal even more satisfying. And no, fats will not make you fat. Limit the portion to about 1 tablespoon, some options are: nut or seed butter, nuts, seeds (chia, hemp, flax), coconut oil or avocado. Step Six: Ice, Ice Baby! Throw in a handful of ice or more, to your liking. Step Seven: Blend It Up Blend it up and enjoy!
